Jag Mandir Palace Udaipur: Jag Mandir a beautiful palace situated on the Southern island of Lake Pichola. This palatial three story architecture is made in yellow sandstone and marble. Built in 17th Century this palace was raised by Maharan Karan singh to serve as a hideout for Mughal Prince Khurram (known as Shah Jahan). Maharana Karan singh ruled the region from 1620-28. The palace was completed by Maharana Jagat singh during his regime from 1628-1652. Later on number of European families was sheltered in this palace during the revolt of 1857.
The major center of attraction in Jag Mahal is Gul Mahal where Prince Khurram lived with his family. It has Islamic style architecture with amazing interiors keeping in mind the taste of Mughals. A mosque was also constructed in the palace.
Bara Patharon ka Mahal, Kunwar Pada ka Mahal and Zenana Mahal are the other worth mentioning pavilions made up of twelve solid marble slabs. Jag Mandir palace also has several beautiful gardens adorned with multiple flowers. On a trip to this spectacular monument one can also check out the museum where the historical facts about this palace are preserved. The palace complex also comprises Darikhana restaurant that offer lip smacking delicacies of Rajasthan. It is a nice place to visit and spend the evenings where once the Royalty of Mewar resides.
