Mewar festival celebrated in Udaipur is one of the most important religious festival followed by the Gangaur Festival of Jaipur. This 18 days long festival is celebrated to welcome the advent of spring with all zest and dedication. The festival is celebrated throughout Rajasthan in grandeur style but since Udaipur is the governing place of Mewar rulers here you will find the exact flavor and spirit of this festival. Women assemble to dress the images of Isar (Lord Shiva) and Gangaur (Goddess Parvati). After dressing their idols they carry them in a traditional procession passing through different parts of the city .
In the end the procession is moved towards Gangaur Ghat at Pichola Lake where after performing the traditional rituals the images are transported into specially decorated boats and immersed into the deep waters of the Lake amidst much singing and festivity. Once the religious part of the festival is over it is the time for cultural events that include songs, dances and display of fireworks. The festival is especially meant for women who are dressed in their finest attires and enjoy the celebrations of the festival. So if you want to be a part of this joyful event then plan your trip to Udaipur during this gala time and make it an unforgettable memory of your life.
