Jagdish Temple is one of the famous temples of Udaipur built by Maharana Jagat Singh-I in 1651.Located in the City Palace Complex this temple is famous for Indo- Aryan architecture. The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Vishnu, the preserver of Universe. This three storied temple comprises beautifully carved pillars, decorated ceilings and marvelously adorned walls. The spire of the temple is around 79 feet high and is festooned with sculptures of dancers, elephants, musicians that make it truly a sight to behold.
The main shrine houses the striking four armed image of Lord Vishnu that is carved out a single piece of black stone. There are other small temples encircled the main shrine. These temples are dedicated to Lord Ganesha, Goddess Shakti, Lord Shiva and Sun God respectively. Every year, people from far and near come to visit this holy place of worship. The main shrine has a brass image of Garuda, a figure of half man and half eagle. This huge idol stands as if it is guarding the Lord Vishnu. Chanting of the bells and music can be heard throughout the day. On a trip to Udaipur this is a must visit temple to get the blessings of Lord Jagdish.
