Sajjan Niwas Garden or Gulab Bagh is one of the largest gardens of Rajasthan. Sprawling over 100 acres of land Maharana Sajjan Singh took the initiative to build this garden in 1850. Due to numerous verities of roses this garden is also known as Gulab Bagh or Rose Garden. It is situated right beneath the banks of Pichola Lake on Lake Palace Road. The garden has innumerable array of roses, robust trees, orchids and spacious lawns that leave the visitors spellbound in their mesmerizing beauty. The arrangement of different varieties of flower beds made up of roses leaves any visitor in delusion and is the main highlight of this garden. In these spacious lawns visitor feel relaxed and rejuvenated and at the same time they can enjoy the majestic beauty of nature.
The garden has every thing that attracts children and makes them happy. The toy train in the premises of the garden is the major attraction among children. There is a little zoo that has various animals for the amusement of children. Apart from natural beauty, the Sajjan Niwas garden has a library constructed by Maharana Fateh Sngh. It is known as Saraswati Bhawan Library. The library has a good collection of books related to history, archaeology including several manuscripts dated back to the early medieval period. It also encompasses a museum which was originally known as Victoria Hall Museum. The museum is famous for its collection of antiques, royal household items and other interesting relics from past. In the month of July/ August a fair is held here on every Monday. Visitors from far away places visit this natural beauty which offers them paradisiacal pleasures of their life. It is a worth visiting place during a trip to Udaipur.
