A religious complex situated in the Northern region of Mewar is 22 Km from Udaipur. The city is dotted with temples. Eklingji is a complex that houses 108 ancient temples chiseled out of sandstone and marble. This temple of Eklingji was built in 734 AD with the presiding deity of Eklingji a form of Lord Shiva. Eklingji has been the presiding deity of Royal family of Mewar since the time of Bappa Rawal the founder of Mewar dynasty. The present deity was regarded as the virtual ruler by the Maharajas of Mewar who considered themselves as the diwan under Eklingji. Sprawling across 2500 sq. feet and at the height of 65 ft. the temple area is fortified with a strong wall running around it.
The main entrance hall on the Western side welcomes the visitors in to big hall where a silver image of Nandi is situated. The sanctum has a four faced image of Shiva representing Brahma, Vishnu, Maheshwar and Surya (Sun). The flat top of the composite idol is covered with a Yantra a mystic symbolic drawing. The other famous temples that are worth mentioning are Nathon Ka Mandir, Sas- Bahu Temple and Adbudji jain temple. There are also two kunds situated on the Northern side of temple is Karz- Kund and Tulsi Kund. Water from these temples is utilized for temple services. Shivratri is an important religious festival celebrated over here with great devotion.
